Summersville, WV – Cody Huddleston and Zach Horrocks are your 2022 Marshall Fishing Cup Champions! The 4th Annual weigh-in was one for the record books as it came down to just .21 ounces. Cody and Zach weighed in a two-day total of 17.48 to claim The Cup in the effort they deemed as “last minute”.
On Day 1 Cody and Zach found themselves in 2nd place with a total of 9.28 trailing the leaders Tim Wade and David Riddle who had 10.13. The duo would weigh in 8.22 on the final day and claim the spot of Cup Champions.
“We started off hot this morning with three fish in the box by 8 o’clock,” Huddleston said. “That sun popped out and it just went downhill fast. We covered a ton of water and more than likely ran half a tank of gas out.”
The duo who have spent their fair share of time on Summersville made their milk run through the best stuff they have history on their route to the win today. Claiming they had run all of their good stuff they still only had three fish at 1 o’clock.
“We came back in McKee’s creek around 1 and I flipped out to one on the Garmin (forward facing sonar) and caught it,” Horrocks said. “At that point, we told ourselves this is what we are going to do the rest of the day.”
The duo had that game plan up until 2:45 when they decided to swing over to a point for their final spot.
“Zach found one on the graph and kept pitching to him and pitching to him and couldn’t catch him,” said Huddleston. “He said ‘I don’t know about that fish’ and Zach spun the boat around and I made a long cast down the point. On the way down I felt a tick and I said don’t go anywhere I think I got one. I set the hook and fought it in and it was our biggest fish of the day.”
That fish would win Zach and Cody big fish title of the day at 2.09 and also secure their first Cup title.
“This one was truly crazy,” said Horrocks. “We caught them from 27 foot of water to six inches. We caught our only five keepers on four completely different baits, from a buzzbait, spinnerbait, drop shot, and carolina rig.”
The duo also took home two Cups, $3000, and re-qualification for the 2023 Cup!
“This is what we fish for right here,” Huddleston said of the Cups.
