Marshall University Fishing Team announces new ‘Marshall Bass Super Series’ coming in 2023. The all-new series was announced via their Facebook page yesterday evening.Marshall Bass Super SeriesThe new series will feature an invite-only of 50 top teams around West Virginia competing against each other to qualify for the annual Cup that is placed in November on Summersville. The Top 40 teams after five Super Series tournaments will be invited to The Cup.

Invitation to the series is based on how many open tournaments each team fished in 2022. Those teams who fished all five regular season opens will have access to entry first, the following week will open to all who fished at least four opens, the next week will be open to those who have fished at least 3, and so on and so forth.

Once the league is filled to 50 teams, those who wish to get in will be placed on a waiting list. That waiting list will be open til the second event of the season and then will be closed.

“We are super excited for this new adventure into 2023,” said Team President Bailey McKinney. “With the changes to how tournaments are run within our state, we knew we had to make a change from our popular Opens series. We feel the changes to our tournaments in the future create a sort of ‘best of the best league’ and everyone will be competing just to get in the league.”

To qualify for the 2024 Marshall Bass Super Series, teams will need to finish inside the Top 47 in points as well as fish four out of five events. The bottom three from the points will be dropped and three qualifiers from the new Opens series will be invited.

The Opens series has not been officially announced yet but will consist of three tournaments scattered around the state. The Top 3 teams in points after three events will be invited to the 2024 Super Series. Each Opens series tournament winner in 2023 as long as they fish all three opens will be invited to fish the 2023 Cup as well.

“We understand that this change might not be the most popular among those who have fished with us in the past, but it was a change we had to make,” said McKinney. “We didn’t want to go to an event at the end of the season and teams that are in contention for Team of the Year or Cup qualifications have to be turned around at the ramp to go home because we are over capacity in the parking lot.”

The season is set to kick off on April 8th on Sutton Lake and will wrap up in September on Stonewall Jackson. To see the full schedule click here.
