While the Marshall Bass Super Series has a lot of grizzled veterans in the field from previous Cup champions to regular season champions, it is always nice seeing new faces on the Series. This year will feature a crop of new faces and while there isn’t an official Rookie of the Year race it will be interesting to see how the newcomers fair on the Series. We caught up with Ben Nowalk who has plenty of experience around the state, but is now bringing his talent to the Marshall Bass Super Series.
DockTalkWV: What are you most looking forward to this season?
Ben: First of all, I am excited to get together with my brother and see how we stack up against these guys on the Series. We also love Marshall Fishing, we have both been Herd fans our entire life and want to support the team in anyway we can. I am at the point where I would rather read anything about the Marshall Fishing Team, than watch a basketball or football game.
DockTalkWV: What was appealing about fishing the Marshall Bass Super Series?
Ben: The Marshall Bass Super Series is a well-put-together Series that seems to run well. After the WVDNR decided to limit participation and the team decided to make it exclusive, it made it special. With only a limited amount of anglers that commit to fishing the Series will make it exciting and we get to be compete with the same guys all year long. We also look forward to the Team of the Year race. We want to see how we stack up against the best teams in the state. And you look at the schedule and it is also great! The Marshall Bass Super Series chose the times of the year that each of these lakes will really show out.
The final thing we are excited about this year is the media coverage. Marshall does an awesome job of giving its anglers good publicity with DockTalkWV. We love being able to see things about the events locally and be a part of the exposure that it provides.
DockTalkWV: What event are you most looking forward to this year?
Ben: While we are super excited about the TOY race, the biggest goal is to make The Cup. The Marshall Fishing Cup has become one of the biggest events of the year. We want to get there and do our best to win!
