Aidan Crockett and Paxton Smith took home the season opening win at the BASS Nation of West Virginia High School tournament held out of Ravenswood, West Virginia. The duo weighed a limit worth 7.75 pounds. Giving them a great start to their 2023/2024 season.

“Winning the first tournament of the season sets us up great for winning the points,” said Crockett. “Not only that, but it builds confidence for us going into the next tournament at the Mon River.”

Crockett and Smith won on the Mon River in 2022 and will look to defend that title in the coming weeks.

“We stayed in the Ravenswood pool all day just fishing rock piles with a jig and single swimbait,” said Crockett. “We didn’t get our first keeper until 9:00 and after that the bite got better as the day went on.”

Although Crockett and Smith won the first tournament of the season they hope to carry the momentum from their win into the rest of the season.

Second place was Kaiden Marks and Scott Yoakum who weighed in a 6.26 pound limit.

Third place was Wyatt Gabehart and Eli Ward who had a 6.13 pound limit.

Easton Dickens won the Junior tournament with a total of 6.56 pounds. Including a 3.62 smallmouth.

31 total teams competed.

41 fish were weighed in and 40 fish were released.
