On a roll is what you would call Evan Ferguson is on right now at Summersville. Whether it’s fishing or coaching he is on something that is setting himself apart. Last weekend him and his partner took home third place in the Marshall Fishing Cup. One day later he would win a benefit tournament with by over a pound and half, which is phenomal for Summersville.

He kept the streak alive and took Jacob Meade and Dalton Hale of Boyd County Kentucky out in the Great Outdoors Marine High School/Junior Tournament over the weekend. With the water drawing over 3 foot a day the Boyd County duo plus Evan knew the fish were going to be hanging deep.

“This was our first time on Summersville,” they said. “We were just throwing the dropshot and targeting any big rocks and boulders we could. Evan did put us on some fish.”

Being their first time on Summersvilles and weighing in a 10 pound bag is definitely impressive considering the conditions as well. Clearing 2nd place of Branson Day and Karson Dick by over 2 pounds.

While they may have came up a little short this time, Branson and Karson 7th graders from over in Wayne County were thrilled about their 2nd place finish.

“That was our first time to ever lead in a tournament,” they said. “It was a cool feeling.”

Branson and Karson targeted their fish a little differently with crankbaits around ditch lines that ran out into the lake. Good enough that they landed the biggest fish of the tournament that went 2.98.

“Riding back to the boat ramp we thought we had a chance,” the duo said. “We held the hot seat for most of the weigh-in.”

The hot seats and the whole setup was something new and interesting Grant Ferguson and The Great Outdoors Marine setup for this tournament. The tournament included a tournament for High Schoolers and Juniors, another tournament for Marshall versus WVU (Coal College Bass Classic) and a tournament set for Pro-Staff of the Great Outdoors Marine. I have to mention the Marshall Fishing Team took home the win versus WVU.

“I am just glad to be able to host this event,” Grant said. “Spring of 2020 we had to cancel due to COVID and we’ve been trying to reschedule since. Thanks to all the teams, boat captains, parents for coming out and battling the cold we appreciate you all. Thank you to the group of guys I have that have helped me together and host this event.”
