Summersville WV- Tim Cline and Tyler Cline delivered Saturday and did their job towards the AOY/TOY race. Closing in on points and winning back-to-back on Summersville is something special.
“It was unreal to leave Summersville with another win,” Tyler said. “Summersville has never been good for us until this year. We’ve put quite a bit of time in on figuring that place out. Huge shoutout to our good friends Brian and Dylan Fitzgerald for helping us learn about the lake and how the fish are set up there.”
We are going to hold off until later this week to break down the TOY race in another piece. Stay tuned for it, but we wanted to catch up with the Clines and get their thoughts from Saturday.
The Cline’s knowing, they had to perform in this tournament to catch up to TOY leaders knew it was going to be a tough one. They were only back 7 points from the TOY leaders of Mike Samples/Lloyd Coleman.
“I was nervous,” said Tim. “But at the same time, I was excited to see if we could do better than we have done there in the past. In the past, we have struggled in the early fall at Summersville.”
In 2021 their best finish on Summersville in 3 trips was a 20th place finish in September. The duo finished 21st in May of 2021 and then blanked in The Cup last year.
If anyone had paid attention to the weights last week at Summersville knew it was probably going to be another extremely low-weight tournament. That proved to be true as only 6.33 was enough to cut the last check on Saturday. Slow fishing was going to be the name of the game.
“It started out slow as our first spot didn’t produce,” Tyler said. “We got a small limit by noon then was able to make three key upgrades during the afternoon that got us to what we weighed in.”
The final stop of the regular season for the Marshall Bass Trail is set to take place in Burnsville Lake on October 9th. Tough fall fishing is going to be on the table, but when you put the best anglers in the state on any body of water, you’re going to see some good weights.
“Regardless of the outcome (at Burnsville) it has been a great season and one to remember,” Tyler said. “We’ve already discussed our game plan and we’re just going to go out there and just fish like we have all season. Do our best and eliminate all the mistakes we can and control what we can control.”
Finishing up in the second spot was the team of Jason McComas and David Riggle with a bag weight of 7.47.
Rounding out the top 3 was the team of Ben Halcombe and Aaron Hayes who had a total weight of 7.38.
Big Fish of the tournament was a 3.70 smallmouth that was reeled in by the team of Mick Sansom and Keith Sansom
