And just like that we are getting ready for stop #2 on the Malone’s Marine Marshall Bass Super Series this Saturday on Summersville Lake. By the looks and report of things it’s going to be a good ole fashion Summersville rodeo.
Weather for Saturday’s event looks fair to midland with some chances of showers in the morning, but clearing up in the afternoon. Low of 49 in the morning but jumping up to almost 70 degrees in the afternoon.
Conditions are lining up to make this one truly anyones game with the overcast conditions, low wind, low water levels and spawning fish will open it up to anglers who are good at both power fishing and finesse fishing. Letting anglers take their choice at either or. And wouldn’t be surprised to see some largemouth at play in this one with the low water conditions.
Looking to carry the momentum of their win into Summersville, Brian and Dylan Fitzgerald have been spending their fair share of time on the lake recently as Dylan has even moved roughly 20 minutes from the lake.
“I think the fish are in all three stages right now,” Dylan said. “You got fish that you can tell are still prespawn, I have caught a couple this week that I think were spawning, and a few that look like they are already done.”
With water temperatures in the high 50’s and low 60’s you can just about imagine there is going to be a lot of fish caught this Saturday on the fabled fishery.
“Right now there is about three to four foot of visibility and with the rain coming it could add a little stain to the water,” said the new Summersville residence. “I think it’s going to at least take 10 pounds to win. The guys who win I think are going to have a mix of largemouth and smallmouth in their bag.”
Along with the Fitzgerald’s there is a crop of Summersville sticks in the mix who will be gunning to get a good start in the Team of the Year race on the Marshall Bass Super Series. Those such as Cody Huddleston and Zach Horrocks, Michael Samples and Luke Stewart, and Kenny McSweeney and Randall Fields to name a few have had wins and great finishes here and will be looking to get a start towards the Team of the Year race at Summersville.
There hasn’t been a Marshall tournament held on Summersville in the month of April in history, the closest was the May 9th tournament held there in 2021. With similar conditions Eli Brown and Mark Thomas took victory in that tournament with almost 10 pounds. There were 25 limits weighed in during that tournament.
“Tell you what, I am excited for this one,” said Team President Bailey McKinney. “This one is going to start shaping up the Team of the Year race and create some interesting stories before we head to Stonewall.
“We just to take a second to thank everyone for their cooperation with us at Sutton. We had a successful event there and looking to carry that success over into Summersville this weekend. Can’t wait to see everyone there on Saturday.”
Takeoff begins at 7:00am on Saturday and weigh-in starts at 3:00pm on Saturday at the Battle Run campground. Follow along with everything Marshall Bass Super Series on Facebook!
